We are mortal! Not that the goal of life would be death, but certainly lifespan development ends with death. The experience of death and attitudes about death change over time and vary by culture. We Americans are largely “death avoiders” and “death deniers” (Norouzieh, 2005). You can change that for yourself and possibly even for others.
For the final writing assignment, you will need to write your own obituary… Actually write two! One obituary should be written as if you have lived out your full life (whatever you believe your life expectancy to be based on family history and medical advances). The other should be written as if you died now (if you’ve seen too many Final Destination movies, back date it to yesterday)! This should be an intensely personal pair of exercises, so make them your own. The graded requirement is that each contain physical, cognitive, and social elements of your development.
Submit your work as a MS Word (.docx) file or a Rich Text Format (.rtf) file.
