According to your textbook authors, Larsen and Buss, the field of personality psychology can be cleaved into six distinct domains of knowledge about human nature. Personality is influenced by the following: 1) traits the person is born with or develops (the dispositional domain); 2) biological events (the biological domain); 3) conflicts within the person’s own mind (the intrapsychic domain); 4) personal and private thoughts, feelings, desires, beliefs, and other subjective experiences (the cognitive-experiential domain); 5) social, cultural, and gendered positions in the world (the social and cultural domain); and 6) the adaptations and adjustments that people must make to the inevitable challenges of life (the adjustment domain). (This semester we are focusing on the first 5; the 6th one is more germane to Abnormal Psychology.)
GOAL: Apply 2 of the 6 domains in describing a personality in the media.
