Imagine that you are the chief of police for a department. Create a response that addresses the following:
What would be your policy for required level of education for officers? Put differently, what level of education will you require individuals to have in order to be an officer?
Will this requirement stay the same throughout the department or would there be different requirements for different ranks (example: officer vs sgt. vs sgt. vs chief) or assignments (example: drug or gang taskforce, placement in schools, etc.)?
Explain the reasoning for your policies and support your reasoning with at least 3 credible academic sources.
Make sure to highlight both the potential pros and cons of your policy or policies (all policy choices have positive and negative things about them).
To get you started: no requirements, High school/GED, Some college, Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ph.D are just some of the possible levels and all have positives and negatives about them as a policy. There is no “correct” answer here. Just like much of what we have been covering in class thus far. There are many different ways forward. The key is that whatever path you choose are backing yourself up along the way as all good policies should be grounded in evidence or research.
