Post 4Provide evidence of your reflection about literacy instruction. In this course, we will learn about many ways to help K-6 students develop literacy skills. You may choose to focus on primary grades (1,2), intermediate grades (3,4), or middle school grades (6); or you can prepare your reflections more generally for K-6. Please specify your grade focus at the beginning of this section. This is the section where you will draw upon many of the ideas from the class reading assignments, handouts, the videos, my demonstrations, your demonstrations, your professional readings, your expectations from your clinical experience, etc., to help you formulate your own philosophy of literacy instruction. Be sure to give credit to the source of any ideas that are not your own. This need not be done formally using proper citation, rather you can state or list the source of the idea at the beginning or end of the paragraph.Plan to discuss the reflection section. What are some of the ideas and goals you have for reading instruction? If your focus is lower grades, consider where you are in the Great Debate about the whole language vs. phonics? How will you use ensure students are learning the required skills? What type of assessment would you use? and why? What are some of your ideas about helping students become better writers, speakers, and listeners? How will you help your students become more appreciative of drama and theatre, poetry and literature? What emphasis will you put on handwriting and spelling?
