List
five public figures in your community you might be interested in learning more
about.   Remember that we’re asking you to demonstrate
Engagement and Openness in your selection; avoid lazy thinking when selecting
the subject of your profile.  Work outside the comfort zone of who and
what are already familiar to you.

When you have finished thinking about the possibilities
and have compiled your list of potential subjects, “freewrite” for at
least 15 minutes about these public figures you have identified in
your written list. “Freewriting” is a composing and thinking invention
activity; it is designed to help you get ideas out of your mind and onto the
screen or page. When freewriting, don’t worry about composing perfect sentences
(or perfect transitions between sentences). The goal is to get as many ideas on
the topic out as you can without stopping your thinking or your
keyboarding/writing. Use the following questions as guidelines to complete your
freewriting:

·
For each public figure you have identified, why are they
interesting to you (in terms of our Project 2 expectations)?

·
For each public figure, what is their role or connection within
your community?

·
What challenges (in terms of the necessity to conduct interviews
multiple times during the Project 2 composing process) do these public figures
present?

Once you have completed your 15 minutes of
freewriting, reflect mentally on the material you have generated.  Focused
time spent thinking is a crucial part of Metacognition.
