Select a problem-solving model that can be applied to a current school-site or alternative-site problem.
Describe what problem-solving model you applied to your problem
Properly cite (current APA Style)
Select a current and relevant school-site or alternative-site problem or issue i.e. student discipline, poor performance on past year’s test scores, ineffective dismissal procedures, low parental involvement, attendance, students not doing homework, employee absenteeism, low employee morale, low productivity, employee turnover, etc.
Conduct a needs assessment – use data to describe the problem i.e. only 27% of current fifth graders demonstrated proficiency in reading as measured by the 4th grade state reading assessment administered during the prior school year.
Identify any underlying causes i.e. staff turnover, loss of funding for Saturday Academy, loss of funding for interventionists.
Brainstorm possible solutions. If possible, include input from teachers, students, academic coaches, parents, and/or administrators, and alternative site employees.
Develop an action plan that will address the problem. The action plan should include the following:
Actions to be taken (3–5 activities i.e. after-school tutoring, push-in support, etc. (company branding to retain employees)
Timeline for completion
Responsibilities to ensure successful completion of the action plan (teachers, students, administrators, alternative site employees and administrators)
Progress monitoring (who and how often)
Method to evaluate success
