Over the years, the word assessment has gotten a bad rap – primarily due to the overuse of standardized assessment with high-stakes outcomes. But, assessment is a key component of any education program. For young children, it should be based on teacher observations, ongoing, and authentic. Chapter 11 mentions many types of assessment appropriate for evaluating the benefits of play. Which of these were new to you? Were you familiar with some?
