Discussion Response for :Both Tedx Talks discuss leadership as one’s ability to motivate the best in others through partnership and passion. This ideology of leadership operates under the assumption that people have a passion for the work that they do or that people can grow passion based on the relational value carried with leaders within the organization. One of the greatest critiques of Tedx speakers, is that they all provide motivational lyrics to their lives’ success stories and want to convince the crowd that the same is possible for them.  However, success is not merely reaching happiness, it is heavily predicated on the ability to set out on a mission and to complete the goals ahead. (Schenck, 2017)
These Tedx talks assert that leaders are those who have the ability to reach popular buy-in to what is important to oneself. It is important for leadership to create a value-based and mission-oriented staff, because this means they embody the beliefs of the organization.  However, staff may perform based on a different set of values and theirs may not necessarily align with the organization, but may assist the organization in reaching its ultimate goals. This is transformational leadership, because helping others see their value and creating a collaborative environment with diverse ideologies drives innovation. (Dick et. al, 2019) Organizational leaders may not always prioritize staff relationships but still may be effective leaders through their ability to maintain performance and accountability.  For example, some people just enjoy doing their jobs well and may be great trainers because they understand that others doing well will result in an easier job for everyone. Others may enjoy doing their job well and a competitive edge makes it difficult to work with them, so they work better alone.
In a discussion of this nature, I would add that effective leadership is confident and comfortable in being high performing. High performing organizations must have leadership with the ability to effectively and consistently communicate. As mentioned in the 2018 article, change is often highly resisted, and it is only as effective as its ability to be communicated. Otherwise, change is easily stagnated in miscommunication. Therefore, leadership who believes in its employees and empowers them must be clear in the expectations that drive this freedom. Some perform well under minimal leadership while others need follow-up. A great leader tailors communication based on the needs of their subordinates. (AlOqlah, 2021)
