For this essay, you’ll employ a combination of what you’ve learned, a little research, and your imagination.
Consider the various cultures covered in this survey course: ancient Egypt, ancient Mesopotamia, ancient Greece, Rome and the Roman Empire, ancient India, early Buddhist culture, and classical Islam. Choose one of these cultures, pick a firm time period, and describe a day in your life as an inhabitant thereof. Discuss your activities, especially any cultural activities you participate in.
There are many possibilities for an assignment like this, so take advantage of this chance to be imaginative. Try to place yourself there and describe your day in such a way that I believe that you’re from that time and place. You can approach this from many angles. It could be a letter to someone, a diary entry, or a straight-up essay. Again, use your imagination if you wish, and ground it with specifics of your chosen place and time.
As always, be original, be thorough, be specific, and most of all, think for yourself. Apply your own analytical and critical skills to the exercise. If you need to do some research, and you probably will, make sure you identify your sources and include a bibliography. To use any unidentified information is plagiarism and will be handled as such. To balance your understanding, you should consult a variety of sources: textbook, encyclopedias, books, articles, and online information. You may consult online sources but BE WARNED: you must apply your critical thinking to ensure that the source is reliable.
Your essay should be between 750-1000 words. The due date is posted in Canvas.
