Roger’s Unconditional Positive RegardAccording to Rogers, unconditional positive regard involves showing complete support and acceptance of a person no matter what that person says or does. This involves supporting a client whether they are expressing good or bad behaviors or emotions.
Unconditional positive regard does not mean you have to like a client or accept everything they have done. It is about respecting the client as a human being valuing that person as doing the best they can to move forward in their lives constructively and respecting the person’s right to self-determination.
With unconditional positive regard in mind, imagine working with sex offenders and/or murders. Do you think it is possible to have unconditional positive regard for these clients? Explain. Please use at least 1 scholarly article to support your discussion.
