Discuss the religious dimensions of colonial government. Compare and contrast the Puritan and Quaker visions for creating a new society in North America. You will compare the two sources based on three topics:
How did each author write about Europe (The Old World)?
What kind of government did each group hope to create?
What was the interaction between religion and the state in the colonies?
Finally I want you to discuss which source you believe had a more practical vision for an effective government.

Read the primary sources associated with your chosen prompt.
Take notes on the sources as you read through them.
After reading through both primary sources for your chosen prompt, find a secondary source on your chosen topic to incorporate into your paper.

Complete the “Primary Source Analysis Worksheets” (Word and PDF files available) for each of the primary sources associated with your chosen prompt. Make sure to answer each question as thoroughly as possible.
These worksheets are to help you think critically about the primary sources and to guide you through how to analyze primary sources to gain a deeper perspective of the writings.
Take notes as you read these primary sources. Highlight areas you don’t understand, words you need to look up, etc. Identify major themes of the sources, and see if you can pick up on the author’s argument and what evidence they use to back up their argument.
The worksheet requires publication information on the primary source, which can be found on the title sheet provided with the primary sources.
On ONE (1) of the worksheets include the information about your secondary source using a CMS citation.
After completing a worksheet on each of the primary sources, upload the files into the assignment submission area. You will need to complete one worksheet for each primary source associated with your chosen writing prompt, so you should upload at least TWO files for this assignment.
Use the worksheets to help write your Major Paper. The quotes you include on the worksheets should also be the quotes used in your paper.
