Write a short (1 page, double spaced) narrative summary of scholarly research literature
that addresses at least one of the questions below related to the Lac operon. Scholarly
research literature includes peer-reviewed original research articles as well as review
articles (as secondary sources).

Questions:
1. What happens to the Lac Repressor in lactose medium?
2. What happens to lacZ gene expression in lactose medium?
3. What is a practical application of this knowledge?

A good search strategy is to use established tertiary sources (textbooks, biological
databases, Wikipedia, Khan Academy are a few examples) to define the terms and scope of
the questions you want to answer. Then, rewrite the question to narrow the scope and
precisely define the information required. Check your sources for any relevant citations.
Make a list of key search terms to locate more sources in Web of Science or Google Scholar.

Your document should include the following elements:
• Informative title
• Statement of the question written in your own words
• Summary of 2-3 articles that relate to the question (1-2 sentences per article is enough)
o Use properly formatted in-text citations to refer to the literature you choose to
summarize. In-text citations are essential to organize your argument, gain the
confidence of the reader and avoid plagiarism (Pechenik 2016).
• Overall summary of your conclusions: Is the question settled? Have any new questions
been raised in your mind?
References
Include a properly formatted References section at the end of your document in CSE style1

Suggestion: use an automated tool to format the references. For example:
