What is Malware Attack????
A malware attack is a type of attack in which cybercriminals intentionally install malicious software on a system without the owner’s knowledge to gain access to the system.
Why do they use malware????
· For capturing personal data
· For financial data such as credit or debit card/bank details.
· Attacking the system and using it for cryptocurrencies
· For getting trade secrets or private data of an organization.
· To gain an advantage over a competitor in the business world.
What are the dangers of Malware attacks????
Malware affects the entire organization and its systems in the following ways
* Results in network issues.
* Slows down the system.
* Results in system crash
* Affects productivity.
* Allows unauthorized access
* Allows private data disclosure.
What are the different types of malware attacks????
The major types of malware attacks include the following.
(a) Viruses: It modifies host programs, and it will execute parallelly when the file is executed.
(b) Worms: It is self-replicating /stand-alone malicious programs that result in security failures of a system.
(c) Trojan horse: It looks like a legitimate program and misleads the users of its intention.
(d) Spyware: This will get installed on a device without the user’s knowledge to steal sensitive information.
(e) Adware: It shows unwanted advertisements in your system and it has the potential to hijack your system
(f) Ransomware: It is a type of malware attack which infects the system and demands fees for continuing tasks by popping up warning messages.
(g) Hybrid attack: It includes both dictionary attacks as well as brute force attacks.
(h) Rootkits: It allows a third party to access a computer and its all restricted applications.
(i) Bots: It creates a broad flood of attacks and Echobot is an example of this type of attack.
(j) Keyloggers: It monitors the user’s keystrokes. Olympic vision is a type of keylogger.
(k)Fileless malware: It doesn’t install anything, but it makes changes to the system files. Astaroth is a type of fileless malware and it’s 10 times successful than traditional malware attacks.
How to prevent Malware attacks????
· Install Firewalls
· Install antiviruses
· Back up data regularly
· Don’t click any suspicious links
· Download only from trusted sources
· Buy apps from trusted sources.
· Update the software regularly.
· Use multiple and strong passwords.
· Take care while using open wifis
· Always try to keep the current Operating system.
· Don’t use unfamiliar or infected removable drives.
· Use proper data encryption techniques
· Avoid disclosing/ posting confidential data to the outside world
· Always confirm you are receiving emails from a trusted source.
· Alert the authorities for any unusual behavior of the system.
