What are some of the main questions you think one should keep in mind when building a music history canon? How can you bring ideas that Sara Haefeli and Kwame Anthony Appiah mentioned into your approach/framework?2. Some of the earliest music we talked about in this class was vocal music. Explain in detail how vocal music has developed throughout the centuries we’ve discussed in class so far (Antiquity-late Classic period). Name at least three examples from class, discuss the context (the time period, trends during the time), and the genre the examples are from. Make sure each example is from a different time period (in other words, don’t pick two examples from the Classic period, for example). 3. Recently in class we started talking about how different countries started building a musical identity. Critics also played a big part in this—they would write about composer’s music and compare it to others from different countries. This was also presented in the movie Amadeus when they would have conversations about which country knew what love was and how to write music about love. Using two examples from different countries and from around the same time period, name at least 2 similarities and 2 differences in style. How are these two examples representative of their country’s music? What are some specific markers of the music’s national origin?
