Plato vs. Aristotle on Human Teachability

Aristotle seems optimistic that all humans are teachable with the proper training, environment, teaching, mentoring, and practice. Plato, on the other hand, is less optimistic about human teachability, holding that the vast majority of people will prefer to remain stuck in their own intellectual caves instead of making the arduous climb into the light by developing their capacity for abstract reasoning and philosophical thought. Explain the views of both philosophers in detail. Then provide your own arguments in support of one or the other view, being sure to consider and respond to the best possible objections to your own arguments and conclusion along the way.Your opening paragraph should contain an introduction to the essential distinction between the two philosophers you will be considering, a clear thesis statement that tells the reader what exactly you’ll be arguing for, and a brief summary of the arguments that you will be providing in the body of your paper.Skip the historical background and get right into the topic at issue!Be sure to stay on topic, using examples when necessary but staying grounded in the actual text of what each philosopher has said on the issue.Either after your own arguments or along the way as you present your own arguments, be sure to consider how a proponents of the other side of the issue would respond to what you have said, and give your own additional reasons why their responses wouldn’t hold up in light of what you have said in your own arguments.
