Jane is a senior studying at Whitley County High School. She currently lives with her mother and he mother’s boyfriend. Her mother works at the local bar where her boyfriend plays in the band. Because of the nature of the job the mother and boyfriend work in they often come home drunk and wasted. Being drunk causes them to fight often, when they fight they scream and often throw things at each other. This frightens Jane . She often feels unsafe in her own home. Jane has told her mother several times how this makes her feel. Jane has also asked her mother to leave the boyfriend and the two of them start a new life together away from the boyfriend and the local bar. Jane’s mother states she loves the boyfriend and can not just leave him. This lifestyle has caused Jane to decrease in her grades and she often states away from home with friends. Jane’s home room teacher has noticed the regression in Jane and has referred her to the school therapist.
Interview with therapist.
Therapist- Good Morning Jane. How are you today?
Jane- Well I guess I’m fine. Just a little tired.
Therapist- You guess your fine? What’s that suppose to mean? Are you not sure?
Jane- Well yea I’m OK. I’m fine, it’s just well there is a alot going on with me right now. You know life is hard.
Therapist- Yes I know. Is that the reason you are here today?
Jane- Well, I I guess so.
Therapist-Would you mind sharing with me what you have going on?
Jane- Well it’s just something at home. It’s nothing really. I would just bore you with the details.
Therapist- Not really, It’s ok I can listen. I don’t have a lot to do today anyway.
Jane- Well Ok, if your sure, It’s just well just I don’t want to live there anymore.
Therapist- How come explain this to me Jane.
Jane- Well, I live with my mom and her boyfriend. And well I just don’t feel comfortable living there.
Therapist-Why Jane? Is someone hurting you?
Jane-Well no my mom’s boyfriend well he often throws things at my mom and well it scares me. They argue you alot.
Therapist-How long has this been going on Jane?
Jane-Well, he has been living there a couple of weeks now. He plays at the local bar where my mom works. I have asked my mom to leave him and her and I start a new life together but she said she loves him and doesn’t want to do that. I just don’t understand why she would want to live like this. I mean I love my mom but I just don’t want to live there anymore.
Therapist-I understand Jane and this is a hard situation. If you do not feel comfortable at home I can help out in 2 different ways. One I can speak with your mom and explain the stitaution or 2 I can see if I can arrange DCBS to find a foster home for you. Do you feel like talking to your mom together would help the situation.
Jane-Well, I guess we could try and then go from there.
Therapist-I think that is a great plan I will schedule a meeting for the end of this week. In the mean time if you need me quicker just holler at me.
