Newsletter: Doing Business in Spain

Your individual project will be to produce a newsletter for a particular business (you will pick out the type of business) on the topic of “Doing Business in …” relating to a particular country. I expect about a six-page newsletter. Microsoft Publisher can be used for the newsletter format. You should cover the following elements:Basic demography of the country–population structure, level of economic development, labor force availability if applicable, health and education status, income level and distribution, etc.Government and trade organization and important institutions, trade alliances, etc. This includes ease of doing business as shown in the World Bank’s “Doing Business in…” website.Social and cultural dimensions (what is relevant will depend on the particular country and business type you have chosen). Consider income inequality, level of corruption, etc.Other infrastructure considerations (this will depend on your choice of business and country–banking practices, retail customs, etc.).Issues and conflicts–are there any problems that you need to be aware of? You will need to look at current news sources to see if there are any simmering or acute crises in your country! You may insert relevant graphics (charts, tables, pictures, etc.) and you should include references as your final section. Be sure references and data are up to date! You will be graded on the following criteria:Adequacy of overview–are important dimensions covered?Writing conventionality–use of proper organization of topics into paragraphs, correct spelling, use of a level of writing where the meaning comes through clearly.Imagination and creativity—use of relevant material such as charts and picturesOverall level of analysis–this relates to the particular business challenges and varies according to the type of business involved. (A manufacturing company will have labor force concerns, but a logistics company may focus on infrastructure such as roads and ports.)
