Organizational Application Assignment (25%) – The purpose of this assignment is for you to apply two of the topics covered in class to your work environment. To complete this assignment, you need to:
Select a particular topic (do NOT try to cover the entire chapter) from two different chapters in your text and demonstrate how these topics have been relevant to your work experience. You will need to
conduct a literature review that defines and describes some of the essential qualities of each topic (Cite sources using APA or MLA guidelines). You will need to integrate at least two sources beyond what is provided in the text for each topic. [at least one page for each topic]
provide several concrete examples from your work experience that illustrate how the topics you selected are relevant to your organization. That is, you will need to make a connection between the key assumptions of each topic, concrete activities from your organization, and how communication is relevant. Be as specific and as explicit as you can in demonstrating this connection. [at least one page for each topic]
Provide a brief summary (1/2 a page or so) to your paper that highlights the importance of the topics you have chosen to organizational life.
Provide a reference list (not a bibliography). You will need a minimum of four sources (two for each topic) beyond the text. Use APA or MLA guidelines.
Sample Structure of Paper (Use Headings):
Topic One: Leadership Philosophies (Chapter 3)
Literature Review: At least one page.
Application: At least one page.
Topic Two: Managing Conflict (Chapter 7)
Literature Review: At least one page.
Application: At least one page.
Summary: ½ page or so.
Reference List: At least four sources beyond the text.
Grading (25%): Grading will be based on completeness of above requirements, mechanics of writing (e.g., sentence structure, spelling, grammar), evidence of working knowledge of the topics you have selected, depth, and sophistication of your application. Your paper (double-spaced, reasonable font and margins) is due by 5:00pm on Wednesday, December 8 and should be emailed to me in a Word document only.
