Structure of Assignment I
ESSAY type questions (Time bound essay)
Announce on Thursday of Week 9/Submit on Saturday week 10.

The essay will be announced to you on Sunday of the Week 11 and it would be submitted on Sunday of the Week 12.
Choose any of the two questions from the list below and write 500 words essay type answers for each.

Discuss the study/particular research that led to the development of Uses and gratification theory. Based on a brief discussion with your friends and family, reflect how this theory may be used to examine their social media usage and consumption among them.
Discuss in what ways the concerns of mass society theorists is different to the critical media approaches. Examine the social changes around you and critically examine how they may or may not have been triggered by the media.
Reflecting on any of the recent events, explain how newspapers/news may have played a role in setting the agenda. Draw real examples from the newspapers to argue your case.
Explain in what ways Knowledge Gap theory and digital divide may be related. Examine the ways they may or may not influence and exist parallel to each other. Explain the ways in which knowledge Gap theory may be applicable in Oman.
How cultivation theory could be used to explain the social changes around us. Using various examples illustrate the role of cultivation theory in their development.
