A group of final-year psychology students, for their undergraduate research project, explored the predictors of stigma attached to mental illness. Their hypothesis was that education, the extent of exposure to persons diagnosed with mental illness, and the perceived severity of the mental illness would significantly predict stigma of mentally challenged individuals.

QUESTION TWO:
3. Dr. Mitchell wanted to determine if mood would be affected by age group, type of music, or their interaction. She recruited 72 adults to participate in all conditions of the study. There were three (3) conditions in the study. Participants listened to “happy” music in the first condition, then “sad” music in the second condition, and then “angry” music in the third condition. After listening to each type of music, participants were asked to complete the 16-item, 4-point Brief Mood Introspection Scale (BMIS). Thus, the participants completed the BMIS three (3) times.
In addition, Dr. Mitchell ensured that there was an equal number of younger adults, middle- aged adults, and older adults in the study. Therefore, there were 24 younger adults, 24 middle-aged adults, and 24 older adults in each condition.
