STATEMENT OF GOALS AND CHOICES 6
Running head: STATEMENT OF GOALS AND CHOICES 1
Statement of Goals and Choices
Audience And Rhetorical Purpose with This Project
Audience: Religious groups
The chosen audience in this exercise is the religious stakeholders. The religious stakeholders are among the leading groups to fight against the legalization of abortion rights for women and girls who wish to seek these services. They believe that it should never be made legal. Religious groups believe that abortion is an issue that concerns life and death. They believe that aborting an unborn child is the same as killing a child or an adult (Adamczyk, & Valdimarsdóttir, 2018). The religious stakeholders in this category will include the Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and Jewish leaders.
Goals Of The Argumentative Essay
One of the main goals for the argumentative, easy project is to bring new insights into how the failure of legalizing abortion paves the way for unsafe abortion practices, which are not only the cause of health complications but also causes preventable death due to excessive bleeding and complications associated with this condition. Specifically, the argumentative essay infers to the World Health Organization (WHO) data to support its position as far as abortion is concerned. It also illustrates that the failure of legalizing abortions affects women’s health, including physical, emotional, and mental. Keeping pregnancy becomes a mental or emotional health threat for many women, especially if they are not prepared to become mothers (Duffy, Pierson, Myerscough, Urquhart, & Earner-Byrne, 2018, November). I believe that my argumentative essay does well in bringing a new perspective towards the targeted audience. It will help show that the legalization of abortion will have a positive impact on women’s human rights, emotional, physical, and mental health, instead of arguing on the ethical issues surrounding the unborn. Once my intended audience reads my augmentative essay, they will understand the new perspective and ideas brought forth.
Choices Considered While Developing The Project
Genre
In this case, an argumentative essay was chosen as a genre. The argumentative essay is intended to influence the religious stakeholders to change their minds about ethical issues surrounding the abortion debate and support its legalization due to its potential impacts in reducing the number of premature deaths to young girls and women seeking unsafe abortion services. The project is intended to influence the religious groups to abandon their reasoning and evaluate the impacts of legalizing abortion on women’s safety, health, and human rights. Several choices were made while developing an argumentative essay about abortion. I began referring to different resources, including the World Health Organization and its perspective towards the topic of abortion. The WHO offers more data about the complications and mortality cases on unsafe abortion practices. In addition, it permits access to safe, legal, and comprehensive abortion care, including post-abortion care to ensure that one attains the highest level of reproductive and sexual health. A more literature review was conducted about different stakeholders’ perspectives about the topic, including UN Human Rights Committee, Healthcare professionals, and media. The argumentative essay model was selected as a genre due to its ability to collect, generate and evaluate evidence surrounding the evidence and establish a position on the topic concisely. Many sources came from different forms of media, including the WHO website, Amnesty website, and others.
Medium
An online poster was intended as a medium to reach out to the targeted audience. I want the readers to gain an understanding of how legalizing abortion would impact women’s lives. I argue that the Media and various non-governmental organizations have played a critical role in pushing for women’s rights to above. Furthermore, media has become the best tool for gender activities and social influencers to push for the abortion agenda in the public and political arena. Therefore, leveraging an e-poster as a medium to reach the intended audience will help in influencing religious stakeholders’ perspectives and reasoning. Media is a strong tool that helps in advancing social reforms.
Appeals
I chose to use pathos and logos as rhetorical methods to communicate to my intended audience. I used both logos and pathos to convince the targeted audience. Simply, logos are used to persuade the audience through reason. Logos is achieved by either citing facts or data. For instance, I referred to the data about complications and mortality rates resulting from unsafe abortion practices. The data proves that even though abortion has been illegalized in most countries or states, this exercise continues to take place behind the legal authority consent, a problem that exposes millions of women and young girls to complications while others lose their lives (WHO. 2021). In regard, the only way to eliminate these preventable complications and mortalities is through legalizing abortion and setting quality and safety standards that should be observed. Pathos is used to appeal to the emotions of the readers. I used pathos to convince the readers to understand the cost of not legalizing abortions on women and young girls. This plan was selected over the others because I felt that it fit my project design and topic as well. The selected plan helps me to appeal to the audience’s reasoning and emotions. Similarly, I felt out that this method stood to me, and I was conversant with it, compared to other methods.
Risks Taken
Various risks were taken while developing this project. The major risks are sourcing information from the online materials, which, if not well evaluated, can present a flawed argument. In this case, I was very cautious not to use any resource that would bring in unverified information. Another risk taken was developing an argumentative essay which was time taking. Developing an argumentative essay was time taking and required more time to complete. The risk did not have a major influence on achieving my project. I applied mitigating measures from step one to ensure that my project remained on track.
Circulation of the project to reach the audience
Defining the methods to be utilized to convey information to a targeted audience is critical. I will use an online poster to circulate the information to the religious stakeholders. Most religious stakeholders prefer finding information from mainstream media like print media. Due to its accessibility and affordability, the religious group prefers finding information from online but reliable sources.
