Std 1 Example 1
Standard One – Learner Development
The educator that implements this standard understands and acknowledges that students learn in a variety of ways. This means an educator must be able to recognize the different forms of learning styles in their classroom in order to build on their students strengths. In order to better understand the students, educators must conduct assessments that give the instructor the opportunity to see where the student is progressing or falling behind. This allows for the educator to adjust their lessons or instruction to better suit the students need. Along with assessments the educator must also collaborate with the students learning community in order to promote student growth and development. An educator that uses this standard acknowledges that learning is affected by many factors and should see what variables are affecting their students. When using this standard the educator must also put value and respect on the input given by the student’s learning environment in order to continue supporting the students development. Lastly, the educator must also place value on understanding a students varied strengths in development and incorporate that knowledge in encouraging growth within a students learning. As for the artifact that I used for standard one, it depicts a teacher evaluating a student with a phonics assessment. This photo is a good representation of standard one because it shows an educator focusing on understanding where the students development is relating to phonics. This will help the instructor assess the students strengths and modify instruction for the students weaknesses.
