Gender Equality in American Workplace

For my research proposal, I would delve into showing the rise and evaluation of gender equality in the American society, especially in the workplace. Since World War II, there has been intense existence of disparity status and privileges between women and men. Although the American have made a huge step as far as social issues such as sex relationships are concerned, people in the American society are not ready to accept the existence of rampant gender inequality. In other words, American society has not achieved gender inequality yet, particularly in the corporate world in America. Shown by the less number of women in upper ranks such as chief financial officers, posts of chief executive officers, and other leading position in the corporate world, American is still behind as far as attaining gender equality is concerned.

In my research project, I would be asking this fundamental question: How is America making progress on gender equality? Why are we not making progress in gender equality in the workplace? Essentially, I still believe that women are significantly misrepresented in the corporate world in America and are still facing a lot of challenges in many workplaces, particularly in the business world. In American society, gender stereotypes play a vital role in influencing how people see women as leader in leadership positions. Nonetheless, it is important to consider noticeable changes the American people have made in the recent past concerning gender equality (Hardacre & Subašić, 2018). For decades now, organizations and society in general have worked tirelessly towards achieving gender inequality by investing resources into developing women’s careers, implementing bias training, and making public commitment to make workplaces equitable and fair, but still progress towards gender equality has been limited (Hardacre & Subašić, 2018). As a matter of fact, there are so many leader in workplace who struggle who still struggle to recognize women in workplace interactions.

According to researchers, gender fatigue is one of the reasons for persistence gender inequality in the American workplaces. Gender fatigue is when a person identifies that there is gender inequality in the society but refuse to accept that it exists in one’s immediate work environment. In addition, there is still inequality in gender pay in the US since the 1979 when women earned about 62 percent as low as men (Flores, 2019). However, women are showing to rising a lot and take a stronger positions as leaders at the moment. As compared to men at same level, women are showing that they can support diversity, equity, and inclusion among teams in the workplace.
