Part 2 – Read, Think, Express
Read the business summary at the start of the report. It may be titled “20??snapshot”, “Year at a Glance” or something similar. I want your opinion, not the opinion of the company president, or chairman of the board!
1) Tell me what you think about the performance of the company for the past year.
Was it good, bad, great, etc. [100 to 150 words]
2) What do you think will happen next year? Will the company perform better or worse? What external events or influences will have a significant impact on the company performance? [100 to 150 words]
3) Review the financial statement notes. Start with the last note and read backwards towards the first note, since most companies like to bury important notes deep in the back.
Identify two notes that you think are very important, meaning that investors should read and understand the implications and/or risks associated of these two notes [100 to 150 words]
Part 3 – Read, Compute, Analyse
Refer to the company current year financial statements. Compute the following ratios and include the page references to indicate where you found the financial data to compute each ratio. Be sure you write out the formula on the first line and on the second line perform the calculation using the numbers from your company Financials
The page reference is to include the e-text page for the formula and the page of the annual report you pulled the figures from.
