Assessment Task 2 Instructions

Carefully read the following:

You are the Marketing Manager of NatureCare Products which is a business based in Brisbane, Australia. The company manufactures and retails eco-friendly, high-quality beauty skin care products.

The business was established in 2011 to cater for a perceived demand for skin products that contain eco-friendly and natural ingredients. The company also has an emphasis on eco-friendly packaging. The business was only selling its products through a limited number of health stores in Brisbane and their online store but after last year’s marketing campaigns they have successfully gotten their products onto the shelves of a major department store.

Management has decided to run another two advertising campaigns over the next six months to boost brand awareness before Christmas. The campaign will utilise three mass print media forums and you have been tasked with creating the advertisements.

Complete the following activities:

Interpret the creative brief

Read through the creative brief provided to you, along with the marketing policy and procedures.

Make sure you understand the main points, including central idea and other details including the time, schedule and budget requirements for creating the advertisements and that you understand the policy requirements. Check that all the information in the creative brief is clear, accurate and complete.

Compile a list of questions you have about the project in preparation for the meeting with the Operations Manager to discuss the creative brief. Also make notes on any errors or omissions or lack of clarity in the information.

Participate in a meeting

Have a brief meeting with the Operations Manager (assessor) to confirm your understanding of the brief and ask any questions you have, clarify your understanding of any finer points and all requirements and confirm your timeframes.

Negotiate on the timeframes with the Operations Manager.

During the meeting, you will be required to demonstrate effective communication skills including:

• Speaking clearly and concisely

• Using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding

• Asking questions to identify required information

• Responding to questions as required

• Using active listening techniques to confirm understanding  

Complete the planning template

Following the meeting and using the information you have been provided, complete the planning template provided in all sections.

Your plan needs to include planning for three mass print media advertisements, namely:

c. An outdoor forum

When you have completed your planning document, check it for accuracy and completeness.

Send the completed plan to the Operations Manager (assessor) via email for final sign off.

In this assessment task, you are required to create the three print advertisements from the creative brief in the previous assessment task.

This assessment is to be completed in the simulated work environment in the SCA.

Assessment Task 3 Instructions

Complete the following activities:

Create mass print media ads

Create your three mass media ads for the following mediums using the design software as outlined in your planning document.

Newspaper

Magazine

Billboard.

Decide on wording and images and make sure you are using the most suitable technique to get your message across. Make up a basic NatureCare logo to use on the advertising.

Check for balance and focus in the advertisements to make sure it is aesthetically pleasing and that the size and position of the ads are in harmony with the principles and elements of design.

Make sure your typeface selections suit the media and the message and check the layout and the balance of white space and margins.

Make sure the layout unifies the various design elements incorporated and the focal point is clear and guides a logical reading sequence for the viewer and that you include appropriate headings and taglines.

Check draft

Check the draft against the details in the advertising brief and ensure all legal and ethical requirements have been taken into consideration.

When you are satisfied with your drafts, get feedback on your draft advertisements from two colleagues (class mates) and make changes you agree with to improve your design. Have a brief meeting with them but also get them to document their feedback for you to hand in as part of your assessment.

Participate in a meeting

You are required to participate in a meeting with the Operations Manager (your assessor) to present your final designs for approval.

These can be presented digitally or be printed. You will present these in person to the assessor during class time.
