Thesis

Societal expectations of women’s demeanor and character are that of submissiveness, passivity, and timidity in their careers, homes, speech, dressing, and overall self-expression to attract mates while men are aggressive, powerful, and domineering. However, such embedded gender roles are being challenged in the recent past, with previously male-specific features being praised in women. These distinctions are evident in the articles “There Is No Unmarked Woman,” and “Gender Role Behavior and Attitudes,” the song “God is a Woman,” and the films “Hidden Figures” and “Devil Wears Prada.”
