This class introduces you to the art and sciences of speech writing and delivery.
You will research, write and deliver ONE speech this semester.
Problem-Solution Speech
You will choose a topic that you want to talk on.
You will find a problem that we all have (and maybe have to convince us we have this problem)
You will find ONE solution that we can ALL implement immediately to solve the problem.
Example: Have you ever needed to pay a friend but didn’t have cash? What app do you use? Do you use VENMO where all your friends can see who you own money too? Why use an app that over shares on social media just to send money? You should Square’s Cash app . The app’s interface is sleek and easy to use, and there’s no weird newsfeed. This payment app is hardware neutral.
Sure, all your friends may be on Venmo, but maybe not for long: Square Cash is quickly growing more popular. The app was downloaded more times than Venmo in July and, as of earlier this week, it ranked higher than Venmo in the Apple App Store in the free finance apps category(Wired, 2021).

by using both pieces of information I capture ALL audience members- those with a cash payment issue and those with experience on VENMO.

You will need at least 3 research articles to support your idea.
Can we find an article on how popular cash apps are? Can we find an article about VENMO with positives and negatives? Can we find an article about Square’s Cash App with positives and negatives?
We will then Write
1. a reference page for all articles
2. an outline script for the speech
Don’t worry each week I will show you how and give you examples.
We will Deliver the speech.
1. recorded on your computer or smart phone
2. or delivered live in class on WebEx at dates/ times you sign up for.
This is a BIG unit. It will take us three weeks and there are lots of details in each week that I skipped here- like how long will my speech be- in this overview.
Take few moments and look through the next three weeks before you do any work. The speech makes sense when you see the whole process and can work through it at your own pace.
