Assessment Name

Initial Investigation – Coursework

Learning Outcomes Assessed:

LO1: Demonstrate a critical understanding of the capabilities and applications of a range of Data Analytics technologies.

LO2: Identify and critique significant current issues in the implementation and use of a range of business technologies and computing platforms.

LO3: Integrate various computing platforms to provide an effective solution for a set of business requirements

Assessment Brief

This assessment requires you produce a cloud-based data analysis solution and reflect upon on it’s effectiveness

For Part 1. You will be required to demonstrate your solution and provide an implementation documentation that will allow your work to be replicated

For Part 2. You will be required to submit a suitably researched report.

Assignments must be submitted in word document format or they will be rejected.

Deliverables

A single word document containing your work.

Failure to adhere to the submission rules will result in a mark of 0.

Detailed Brief

You have been supplied with data set that records daily temperatures in world cities.

Part 1

To allow effective analyse the data needs to be available in a cloud environment to be analysed by third party applications using standard SQL Statements.

You are to demonstrate that the dataset can be migrated to a cloud environment and successfully analysed using standard SQL statements. You are to document this solution so that it can be implemented at a future data.

The data required is as follows

The average, maximum and minimum temperature per country per year.

The ten highest temperatures by country from the dataset.

The ten lowest temperatures by country from the dataset

The date of the maximum temperature for each continent.

The standard deviation for temperature for each country in the year 2001.

Part 2

The company has live temperature sensors in each city. You are required to propose a cloud-based solution that will allow the data to be collected, analysed in real time, and stored for later multi-dimensional analysis.

You must specify the technologies you wish to implement and identify any issues that may arise.

Specific Assessment Criteria:

(Please note that the General Assessment Criteria will also apply.
