Attached is my Discourse Map. I try to focus on Primary and Secondary Discourse more conceptually, but I give specific examples of Secondary Discourse within and outside of school.
For the Primary Discourse I picked out the three main things that I thought defined Primary Discourse because, for me, my Primary Discourse changes depending on what community I am in. I wouldn’t say my Primary Discourse is where I have grown up since that Discourse has even changed. For Secondary Discourse I initially give concepts of what Secondary Discourse is and the select two Secondary Discourses I participate in and give three examples of how I interact with that discourse in that specific community. The Secondary Discourses that I touch on are the Teachers Discourse within CSU and with relationship to other future teachers and the Christian Faith Discourse that I have with relationship to those who say they believe that Jesus is “running the show,” to say in contemporary terms. I don’t identify with the language discourse itself in Christianity because I think it doesn’t communicate very well in contemporary culture, but I do tell people that I am a Christian and make that… essentially all of who I am. Being a Christian does not make me feel like I belong at CSU in anyway shape or form, but being made into who I truly am by Jesus and given true life by Jesus is certainly what I identify with the most and that has helped me cut through the noise of the messy and hurt world to help others and myself enter into the true humanity they were created for. The map is fairly self explanatory I think, but if you have any questions feel free to comment and ask. Thanks!
