The Topic
The mural commemorating Barbara Kruger’s “Untitled” Your Body Is a Battleground” and Shirin Neshat’s “Rebellious Silence” are both works of art that address themes involving the perception of women in society. What values do the two images project regarding the status and treatment of women in contemporary culture? How do they use similar techniques in suggesting these values? How do they differ?

The Readings for Week 3 contain articles about Kruger and Neshat that provide contextual information, interpretive perspectives on the two works, and selected statements about their work by the two artists. These resources can be used in developing your essay.
Manuscript Format
The essay is to be one page to one and a half pages in length and typed in double space. Please us Times New Roman type font, 10- to 12-point in size.
Give your essay a title and provide your name and course (including the section letter) on the first line of the page.
Use MLA style to document your paraphrases of materials taken from the PowerPoint Readings or the article on the George Floyd mural. If you use only these materials no Works Cited is needed. If you use additional sources, a Works Cited list should be included.

The discussion is due by Tuesday, February 1 at 11:59pm.
Evaluation Criteria
Papers will be evaluated for (1) fulfillment of the requirements of the assignment; (2) quality and originality of thesis, and accuracy and substance of content; (3) clarity of purpose in overall organization, coherence of the paper as a whole and of paragraphs, and fluency of transition; (4) accuracy and appropriateness of diction, and forcefulness and fluency of discussion; (5) accuracy and clarity of sentence construction, and accuracy of grammar.
The Turnitin system will identify the percentage of the paper taken from other sources. In all cases, the indebtedness must be less than 20%. Any case of plagiarism will result in a grade of zero for the paper. Your paper must be unique to you.
