MIE 402: DATA ACQUISITION AND SIGNAL PROCESSING LAB I

Spring 2022

Objectives

Become familiar with digital data acquisition,

Explore common data acquisition pitfalls and possible remedies, and

Investigate the effect of sampling rate and number of samples on measurement accuracy.

Background

Lectures on data acquisition

Equipment

National Instrument data acquisition (I/O) board

LabVIEW data acquisition/analysis software

Digital Data Acquisition. In this task, you will investigate the effect of sampling parameters on the acquired signal. Connect the circuit to the data acquisition board as shown in the diagram.

Open the Lab_1 App. Set you signal parameters to match the function shown below:

Compute the mean and RMS of this signal. Sample the signal using the six data acquisition parameters settings below:

Save (right click mouse on plot, then Export to Excel) to your drive the measured signal in each step (including a screen capture). In your assignment, you will discuss the effect of sampling frequency and number of sampled points on the acquired signal in terms of observed frequency, signal amplitude, mean, and RMS. Your observations should be entered in the notebook.
