Tower Math
Board Game Assignment TA 141
Math Strand
The math strand used in this board game is Number Sense and Numeration. The Number Sense and Numeration strand focuses on the relationship of numbers. This strand deals with place values, counting, and understanding and applying the use of operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing).
Concepts
Beginning
BeginningThis board game can be used with all the basic operations (adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing). However, this example of the game will target a Grade 2 audience and will be used for practicing adding and subtracting.
Instructions
Goal: To take over the tower/castle by defeating the enemies and the opposing player.
Each player takes a game sheet that includes the two towers and your math board
A player takes a math card (answers on back of card) from the deck on the board and places it on their player sheet
Middle
MiddleIf the player gets stuck during adding/subtracting, then that player may use their touch math board to aid with the equation.
When the player is finished answering their question they will roll a trebuchet dice which will provide them with 0 ,1 or 2 chips. These chips will be placed on the ready, aim and fire spaces on the board. Each player is required to obtain 3 chips to fire their trebuchet. Getting 0 chips will also prevent the player from moving, but if the player gets 1 or 2 chips they can progress one space.
End
EndA trebuchet can be fired at an enemy tower/castle or the opposing player. Firing the trebuchet at a tower/castle will cause one hit on that tower/castle (need 3 hits to take over the tower/castle). Once the trebuchet is fired the player starts back at zero chips. The player must defeat the first tower before they move onto the next section of the board to attack the castle. Firing the trebuchet at an opposing player sends them back one space.
The player that reaches and defeats the castle first wins the game
Math Manipulative
The math manipulative used for this game is touch math. These two videos will show how touch math is used for adding/subtracting.
