Business Ethics
Assignment #2 (Chapter 2)
(20 Points)
Week #2
Assignment:
Read Chapter 2 Shareholder Relationships, Social Responsibility and Corporate Governance (Pages 28-58) of our Textbook. Review an Ethical Dilemma (Page 29)
Answer the following questions:
1. If tracking employees through technology is not illegal, why should Megan be concerned if she is not involved in any misconduct?
2. At this point what are Megan’s alternatives to resolve her dilemma about her involvement and knowledge of the company’s tracking of its employees?
3. Who should have a stake and/or interest (think stakholders) in how the company tracks and monitors its employees?
4. Assume companies will argue they monitor internet usage during work to protect the company from illegal activities and they put GPS tracking devices on vehicles the company owns – therefore their conduct is legal. Discuss how a company’s conduct, although legal, will have an effect on the employer-employee relationships. Would this conduct affect productivity?
5. Would you want to work for Megan’s employer (knowing what you have learned about the company’s conduct) assuming the salary and benefits were very good?
General Information:
Your response to the above five questions (and their different subparts) should be in complete sentences and grammatically correct. You may use headings to differentiate each question’s answer. Reference should be made to Chapters 1 and 2’s materials on ethics and other relevant topics. You decide the length of your response.
You may e-mail me if you have any questions.
