The video entitled “What is Music” was very relatable. For example, there was a point when a guy said, “Music is an escape from the monotony of everyday life.” I very much understood what he meant when he said this as music to me causes me peace after a stressful day. Rather than getting into habits, I can release stress through listening/singing music. When I listen to music, it is as if I do not really think about what is going on around me nor any negativity I may have come across throughout my day.
My musical identity stems from different things in my life. Over the course of years, I have played the clarinet and piano. I have also sung and participated in talent shows since I was in elementary school. This has been significant in my life as I still enjoy doing so. My family has definitely influenced my music tastes as they have been able to expose me to cultural style music. My mother has exposed to me to a lot of Spanish music, but also Latin music which I have practiced/performed in the past. At this point in my life, while I definitely am open to almost every genre of music, I do prefer listening to R&B and Bachata.

I enjoyed watching the video based on what is music. This video made me rally think what music to me was. The different opinions that random people have shared in the video has made me think what music is really to me. Based on the video, what is music I relate mostly to the little girl when she says, “music makes me feel free”. This is important to me because in my life I am using music to keep my happy when I have a load of stress on my back. To me I feel free from stress when I listen to music or play the piano. “Our thoughts, feelings, opinions, and knowledge about music are as individual as our personalities (Dawn Avery)”. Everyone’s personality matters about music whether you’re and musician or not.
My musical identity consists of playing the piano, organ, and guitar. I took piano classes when I was young for 5 years. And I learned the organ through my church organist. The guitar was self-thought, but I think I should start taking classes in the future. My dad was the main person to influence me to play an instrument. It was when he brought an old piano to my house, and I developed the interest of piano by hitting random keys on the piano. And eventually he saw I had an interest in music and started taking me to piano classes.
My favorite Artists is, Bob Marley and the song “One Love”. I like the style that the music is played and the most important this is that the meaning of the song which is talks about everyone having unity and loving one another.
