1. The purpose of this assignment is to read, analyze, and synthesize findings of nursing research for improving evidence- based nursing practice.
2. You must review and analyze (critique) a quantitative nursing research study
3. APA format (7th ed.) is required.
4. Answer ALL of the following questions in each section as follows: (10 sections)
What level of evidence in the evidence hierarchy is the study? How do you know this is a quantitative study? Support your answer by citing information.
What is the purpose of the study? What is the research question? Why do the researchers think this is important? What section in the research article supports your answer? Give an example from that section of the research study that supports your answer.
What is the study design? Describe the study design (experimental, quasi-experimental, non-experimental) and state what information supports your answer? If the study was a quasi-experimental design, state what supports your answer.
What is the study sample (participants)? Describe the sample. Why did the researchers recruit this type of sample (participants)? What benefit is cited for using this type of study sample (participants)? Support your answer. Describe the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Are there any ethical concerns/issues with this study? Describe how confidentiality was maintained among the participants and in protecting data collected for this study
What data collection (measures) were used in the study? Describe the tools (measures) used to collect the quantitative study data. Does this study use an intervention(s)? If yes, describe that intervention and how it is measured.
Are there any threats to validity (internal or external) in this study? Describe any threats? Support your answer. If there were not threats cited, state why.
What were the results of this study? What types of statistical measures are used to evaluate the results of this study? Did the researchers report a level of significance among the results found from this study? Describe and explain.
What were the limitations of this study? Describe and explain.
What are the recommendations from researchers from this study?
What are the implications of the study results for nursing practice? How can the evidence from this study be translated to improve nursing practice?

6. Include citations and references where applicable for statement and/or facts from outside sources. Students may cite from the text for this assignment. However, use direct quotations (from all sources) sparingly. Points may be deducted for excessive direct quotes. Students should paraphrase and use their own words in analyzing the research article for this assignment. Remember though that you still have to cite your source, even when you paraphrase.
