Final Stats Project

Due on the day of the Final Exam

Learning Objective: The final statistics project will provide you with the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of the applied aspect of this course. In fulfilling this objective, you will fulfill the written statistical component requirement of the BBA program.

Instructions:

First, brainstorm a problem (e.g., health, debt, student success, work, stress, happiness, customer satisfaction, etc.) that you’re interested. It can be anything relevant to your major such as general business, economics, management and organization behavior, marketing, computer information systems, finance, accounting, business communication, business law, health care management, etc.

Second, find a data set or statistics of interest about a company or about an issue that you care about.

Suggested websites to find statistical data based on published reports:

https://www.fbi.gov/resources/library (crime reports)

Free Business Data Files: https://www.kaggle.com/datasets

Other Data Sets: http://www.lib.jmu.edu/resources/statistics_datasets.aspx

Or, you may just find other statistical websites with data through Google Scholar.com. Or, through a reputable peer-review journal article that you find from the library research database.

Third, create at least two different research questions and/or hypotheses about the statistics/data that you selected.

Sample question: What is the percentage of women who own businesses versus men in America? (Descriptives)

Sample question: Which bank offers the highest salary in Texas, Company 1 or Company 2? (T-test)

Sample research hypothesis: H1: Men and women differ in their eating habits. (Independent Samples T-test)

Sample research hypothesis: H1: Drinking coffee impacts students’ scores on exams. (Simple Linear Regression)

Sample research hypothesis: H1: Watching the news too often is correlated with being pessimistic about the world. (Correlations)

Fourth, find out what analytical approach was used to gather the data (e.g., percentages, frequencies, means, standard deviations, t-tests, ANOVA, linear regression, regression analysis, correlational analysis, multiple regression, etc…). Just provide credit to the source in the reference section of your report.

Fifth, if the data set has not been analyzed, then create two visual graphical displays of the data (e.g., pie chart, bar graph, histogram, scatter diagram, etc.) and/or analyze the data (e.g., correlation, t-test, ANOVA, regression).

If the data is already analyzed, find a way how you will share this aspect within your managerial report. For example, insert two visual graphs in the document.

Sixth, interpret the results of the data set or data table(s) that you selected given the questions/hypotheses that you developed. What’s the answer to your questions and/or hypotheses?

Seventh, find two credible references that support your study to enhance the professionalism and the credibility of your study. Make sure to cite them in your managerial report in the significance and/or the discussion section of the study.

Eighth, complete the managerial report worksheet-Option 2 to help you write your managerial report and submit the managerial report on the day of the final exam. Make sure to submit an electronic managerial report by 11:59PM on the day of the final exam.
