Web and mobile App Design and Development post-degree diploma program,
Langara college
100 West 49th Ave, Vancouver, BC V5Y 2Z6
Canada
Dear Admissions Committee:
I majored in Japanese Interpretation and Translation during my college years. Majoring in Japanese Interpretation and Translation allowed me to study Japanese language and culture in depth. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, I have joined a staffing agency in Japan and have been working in sales, helping engineers find jobs. I introduced engineers looking for work to companies looking for engineers. I am currently studying web design on my own to change my career as a UIUX designer.
●Why are you interested in this program?
There are two reasons why I am interested in this program.
The first is that I thought I would be able to learn a wide range of technical skills necessary for a designer. At my current job, I not only work as a sales person, but I have also created advertising catalog for company services, made videos, and banners for events to attract customers. Not only for the company, but also personally, I have also created
financial-related banners for SNS. While creating these contents, I felt that it is important to be able to suggest appropriate designs in accordance with the objectives. Among the programs, I thought “Graphics Techniques Fundamentals” and “Advanced Typography” would provide me with the necessary design skills and knowledge while considering the design. I also thought the courses called “HTML/CSS I, II” and “Introduction to Web Programming” cover programming knowledge. As I said above, this is an attractive program where I could learn the knowledge of design and acquire the expressive ability to think about what kind of message I want to convey to the user.
Additionally, I thought I could develop the interpersonal communication skills actually
needed for the project. Specifically, my experience as a salesperson made me realize that interpersonal communication skills are necessary. For instance, there was a customer who demanded to build their own infrastructure environment. Since the client was a
non-engineer, I had to check with our engineers whether the client’s request was feasible and discuss details with clients which is difficult to achieve from the request. Based on this experience, I thought understanding of the knowledge and background of the developers and salesperson is important in communication. In order to achieve this goal, I would like to take “Communications for Technical Professions’ ‘ to learn what kind of consideration and ingenuity is necessary for smooth communication in a team. In the future, I would like to become a web designer who can work smoothly with people from different professions.
For the reasons above, I decided to apply for the “Web and Mobile App Design and Development” program because I thought it would improve the quality of my design and interpersonal communication skills.
●How can this program help you achieve your career goals?
My current career goal is to be a UIUX designer working in many different worlds. Specifically, I want to create designs that people in any country can be satisfied with. In order to realize this dream, I think it is necessary to have a global perspective and a sense to quickly absorb the latest designer trends. The “Web and Mobile App Design and Development” program covers classes and an environment that can help me achieve this. There are two specific reasons.
The first reason is I thought I could build a global network. There are professional and diverse nationality instructors. And there is also the chance to work in groups with members of multinational classes who have the same dream. I am from Korea, but I am currently working in Japan, but recently I have also had to coordinate with clients in the US. As a sub-leader, I have had the role of coming up with measures to help individual members of the department increase sales. The program includes a variety of individual and group work, so I would like to utilize the soft skills I have acquired in my current position to build on my individual management skills, and through group work, I would like to broaden my global perspective while utilizing my experience as a leader. In my opinion, there is a limit to providing satisfactory service to people across countries without understanding the country. I believe that langara’s global network will be a key to realizing my career goals.
The second reason is to develop your own sense of trends. In the last term of the program, you will have the opportunity to learn about current trends. Through this opportunity, I would like to catch up on the recent industry issues and current trends in order to create a web design that is easy to view for everyone and raises a sense of stability.
In order to realize my dream as mentioned above, technical skills are important, but I also need to develop a global perspective and a sense of keeping up with the latest trends, which the “Web and Mobile App Design and Development” program offers.
Sincerly,
MoonYoung Lee
