Step Into The Shoes of A Curator
Each student will submit a written paper showing the art works they selected for their Curatorial Theme based on research using works from the permanent collections of :
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA and The Whitney Museum
(Total number of artworks: 12 pieces)
** At EACH of the 3 museums select 4 examples from four different artists’ work in permanent collections.
** Create a theme around your selections and establish a link amongst the works to reflect your personal aesthetic. Give your collection of artworks a title to identify your theme.
– Briefly describe each art work; compare and contrast their style and process, method and materials; what is each artist trying to communicate and what are some of the characteristics of the art work that make it innovative and noteworthy and most importantly how it fits into your theme?
– Attach the website link and screenshot of the artwork following each art work critique.
GOAL:
A Visual Enrichment Exercise
– Learning to look at art, think creatively and develop your own sense of taste. Sharpen your ability to interpret/distill meaning and offer critical analysis of personally selected works of art.
As a starting point for this assignment, think about some basic popular themes and subject matter such as still life, portraiture, narrative/figuration, landscape or non-objective abstraction, looking at a variety of styles and media.
