Stories(Some Changes in my life)

For me, in addition to being unaccustomed to studying, there is a huge difference in life. For example in Guangzhou, I always find a supermarket/market near my home. Life is so convenient and I can enjoy fresh vegetables and meat every day. Therefore, I don’t need to buy ingredients in bulk at once, let alone put them all in the freezer. Now that I live in the United States, it is really difficult to find a market, but supermarkets are easy to find, such as Walmart, Safeway, Whole Foods Market, etc. However, unless you’re lucky enough to live next to a supermarket, for most people, you’ll need to drive to the supermarket to buy groceries, which can take half an hour. For me, I gotta get 40 mins to drive.

I joined the Air Force 3 years ago. This decision was influenced by a friend. I remember at that time, I had been in the United States for a few years, and my studies were not very smooth, and my life was ordinary. I always feel as if I have no interest in anything, and I am very confused about the future. Once i hanged out with my friend. She told me that she joined the Air Force and just came back from basic training. She heard some confusion in my life and study recently, and she suggested that I make some changes, such as joining the Air Force like her. Joining the Air Force was really a huge challenge for me to overcome language difficulties and this was my first time leave home by myself. It was a great experience.

Academic dreams/goals/plans

I have wasted too much time in community college, now I have to spend more time studying than others. My GPA wasn’t great at community college and I wish I could improve my GPA in my final two years. My long-term goal in University is 3.25 or above, which is really difficult with my current GPA of less than 2.5, especially I’m not very good at studying. Of course NO DFWs: No Ds, No Fs, No WUs, No NC, No Incomplete in my college life. The medium-term goal is to get ALL Bs or As in all my courses in this semester. That will be a good beginning. My short-term goals is to try my best to get 90% and above in each quiz/ assignment/test to improve my GPA.

The reason that I choose Sociology to be my major actually I have no idea. Maybe because I just want to graduate from university as soon as possible. Every time my mother ask me what I can do after graduate, I don’t know how to say coz honestly I got no clue. I feel that sociology can be used everywhere, but it doesn’t seem to be used anywhere. Probably I really need to find a time to go to the SSIS student success center to talk with them. We can discuss more about my major and future career. To be honest, the college life is a little different from what I imagined. The college life I’ve seen in movies and TV and heard from my friends is relatively easy. In addition to studying, they still have time to travel around, or work a part-time job. It’s completely different for me. I didn’t hang out with friends in this 2 months, even I didn’t have family dinner with my parents. Basically I have to cut my part-time work time in half, otherwise I won’t have time to rest at all. Looks like I need to make a better time management.
