President Wilson wants world peace and world order, and he wants to make democracy

President Wilson wants world peace and world order, and he wants to make democracy safe for everyone. Emma Goldman wants to concentrate on the issues that we have in America before we try and move on to issues of the world. W.E.B. DuBois talked about how when the soldiers left for war, there were problems in America, and when he returned, there where the same issues in America. He and Emma both agree that they must fix the problems in America before they try and fix the problems of the world. Goldman and DuBois challenged Wilsons’s view for America by saying that America did not have a picture-perfect democracy, and democracy is not even safe for America, so we should not try and push democracy on other countries. Instead, we should try and fix our country before trying to fix other countries.

The Sedition Act forbad speaking harshly or badly about anything involving the U.S. government or the military and forbad any disrespect toward the U.S. flag.

World War I opened job opportunities for white women, and African American men and women. These women were given the opportunity to work outside of their homes, and work in places like the railroad, and on assembly lines. African American men got the opportunity to work jobs that were normally only for white men. Besides working jobs that were normally for white men, African American men also served in the war. After the war, many African Americans migrated for better opportunities in the South, and got to work in steel workshops, in the mines, and in automotive industries. African American women also got the opportunity to work outside of a household servant and got to work in different manufacturing companies.

When white soldiers returned home from the war, they found African Americans working the jobs they used to work and living in the places they used to live. That made them angry, and they wanted to restore what they thought was theirs. Also, the whites were trying to restore what they called their “white supremacy”, so they would find a way to accuse an African American of something, like swimming to close to the white side of a lake, and then they would lynch or stone them. One of the deadliest massacres occurred in Tulsa, when white rioters burned down the entire town of Greenwood, because they did not want African Americans to be successful.

The Treaty of Versailles planted the seeds for World War II by stripping Germany of part of their land and distributing it to other countries as punishment for World War I, and trying to keep Germany a poor, impoverished country. This caused Germany to rebel, and Hitler to try to produce a dominating human race.
