Shanice Easter Main PostCOLLAPSEI can imagine Native Americans finding Indian mascots offensive due to the misrepresentation such images provide; many of these mascots can be deemed a mockery to the cultures of Native Americans as well. Every heritage has a backstory and Native Americans should be respected for their contributions to society. Native people have been overlooked for their inestimable contributions to the Western world (Robinson, 2017). They have provided creation of the kayak, rubber boots, and bunk beds to name a few.
As stated, in addition to earlier federal laws that played a role in the populating of urban areas with Native people, high unemployment on tribal lands has contributed to the move of Native people to urban areas (Robinson, 2017). This indicates Native Americans have already faced oppression, hardship, and racism. Their journey should be honored instead of simply used as sports symbolism, especially if there is no benefit or gain for them.
The video entitled Fields of Promise is an eye-opening account about the difficulties experienced making it hard to get an education, Mireya’s mother had achieved a first-grade education. Being able to educate her children is one of lifelong dreams. It is helpful to assist with services whenever there are situations where others have a lack of necessities. The trials faced are real world experiences of the information taught in the text.
