Your Future in Your Concentration: Mission Statements
A mission statement is a short and straightforward action-oriented statement that describes a company or an organization’s purpose or overall goal. It summarizes what an organization does, including the goods and services it produces, its core function, values, philosophies, competitive advantages, and general descriptions such as the primary market and the organization’s geographical location. A mission statement explains what a company does, how it does it, and the reasons for doing it, and if used correctly, it is a helpful tool for improving any firms’ performance (Mullane, 2002). Like any other tool, mission statements can be misused and appear outdated, ineffective, and inefficient (Mullane, 2002). However, if developed and implemented by executives or management who understand its purpose, it can unify an organization’s operations and establish a clear purpose and direction, leading to improved performance.
When developing my mission statement, I first thought about what is my what, when, and why. Second, it is essential to know what I care about, what is vital to me, my values, vision, different goals in my personal and professional life, and what promotes and uplifts things in my life to make me want to do what I do. Next, I decided to brainstorm and think about things in the past that inspired me to become stronger and better and go hard for what I believe in. I then refined all my ideas into the provided sentences (WixBlog, 2019). I feel the steps that I have aligned will bring about a great mission statement and outcome.
In developing my mission statement, I clearly outlined all my values and future picture or vision, anticipated accomplishments, and goals in my personal and professional life. Next, I brainstormed on the importance of attaining the set goals and how my various values, attitudes, and behavior would enable me to reach those goals. Being a management student, my career aspirations and ideals of imparting the same knowledge to other people and being an effective and looked-up-to leader in my field guided me in developing my mission statement. In ensuring the practicability of the mission statement, I assessed how my good people management, communication, organization, excellent customer service, positive attitudes, and high levels of professionalism would help me become a great leader and tutor in healthcare.
My mission statement is to be a great and robust teacher, an exemplary leader in my field so that I can positively influence other people’s lives. I will incorporate high levels of professionalism, good people management, communication, customer service, and organizational skills in my practice and focus on my personal development to guarantee personal and professional success.” A personal mission statement defines one as an individual or as part of a team at work. It pinpoints or identifies their purpose at work or in private life and explains the values, skills, activities, actions, and strategies that will help pursue the goal and why it matters. My mission statement generally allows me to stay focused on my life purpose and career aspirations and motivates me to impact the world positively.
