European Theater History
Hi,
Please watch the medieval morality play Everyman at the following links (it’s in four short parts that total about an hour):
Everyman Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RnScSFP25g
Everyman Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6symZV-HgDU

The unknown playwright of Everyman gave his characters very strong emotions. The stakes for Everyman are really high as he tries to find those who will argue for his soul and secure his reward for eternity. But there is also humor in the play.
In a brief essay, describe your reaction to Everyman’s struggle. How well do you think the actors in the video conveyed the strong emotions of their characters? Did the actors and the director and designers succeed in moving you? Did their work prompt you to think about matters metaphysical? Did you find the humor in Everyman? Detail your reaction.
This essay should be two-to-three pages, double-spaced, in a 12 pt. professional font, using one-inch margins. If you quote anything or use extracts from other writing, do please cite your sources. I encourage you to be creative in your writing. Enjoy it!
