History Questions

This is an open ended question that will highlight your ability to synthesize lectures and readings, and put together a coherent narrative. Best responses will include strong examples from course content, as well as strong analysis in your own words.

Answer both questions!
1. Give examples of two conflicts that you believe defined the Gilded Age and/or the Progressive Era. Your examples may cover social, political, economic, and/or racial conflict during this time period.
2. Compare and contrast US immigration policy, US policy towards the Philippines, and the US’s treatment of Native Americans during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Discuss the messaging that emerges from these policies as it pertains to empire building, conquest, inclusion, and exclusion from mainstream American society.
