According to Southern New Hampshire University, professional networking is a process by which you expand your knowledge and capability by leveraging relationships with other professionals. The key word is “relationships.” Networking also provides a forum for your career advancement (The Value of Professional Networking for Career Success). My definition of professional networking is working together in a professional setting so like your place of employment, collaborating about new ideas as to how to deliver the networking/information to public, etc.
Professional networking can advance my public health career by giving me new opportunities and ways of meeting new people who are in the public health industry as well as advancing my knowledge and teaching me and directing me in certain areas that I may need assistance on. For example come next Monday I will be starting a new position within the company that I work for at their college of nursing as an Administrative Assistant, which may not seem like much to my classmates but it is to me. I am excited to learn within this position and grow and hopefully be one of the people that I am going to be working under.
One networking strategy that I want to implement with 6 months of completing my degree is setting goals for my self, not just short term goals but long term goals that will take me up to a year to accomplish within my professional networking. The last strategy that I would like to complete is connecting with my connections whether those connections be old connections or using those old connections to make new connections.
