It is one thing to study leadership in the abstract, exploring the traits and behaviors of the leaders around us. However, as this lesson has emphasized, it cannot hurt to look in the mirror, examining our own leadership capabilities. We are all nascent leaders. To this end, use this lesson’s discussion forum to talk about your own charismatic qualities and attributes.
As humans, in viewing ourselves, we tend to err in one of two directions. We can be too narcissistic, with too high or too inflated an opinion of ourselves, or we may lack confidence, being overly shy or reserved, not giving ourselves credit for what we are capable of. This week, don’t worry about erring on the side of being too egocentric. This is a time for exploring your special gifts.
Whether you are willing to see them or not, you all have special gifts. Some may not be as strong or as developed as you might like, but, in this week’s discussion forum, acknowledge them! What special skills, qualities, or traits do you have? What are you good at? What do you think you could be good at? How might these qualities work for you in a leadership context—in terms of directing, motivating, and inspiring others? Your initial post should be 200 to 250 words, and you must reply to at least one classmate’s post.
Discussions are not graded individually (which is why the discussion is set to zero points). However, they are required, forming the basis of your Individual Participation grade, which will be awarded at the end of the course.
