Final Literary Analysis Directions
Select three literary elements from one of the short stories we have read this semester.
The essay must be five paragraphs, double-spaced, in Times New Roman, 12 point font. You must include at least one direct quotation in APA formatting.
1.) Introductory paragraph should introduce the story’s author, some of the author’s background, and the story that you will be analyzing.
2.) The three body paragraphs should include:
a.) topic sentence introducing the literary element and its role in the author’s work. b.) Explanation of the literary element and the importance in the story.
3.) The concluding paragraph should summarize your ideas about the author and how the author uses the three literary elements.
Remember to explain what the literary elements are and why they are important to the story. What do they accomplish in the story?
Sample thesis: In “The Lottery”, Shirley Jackson uses the literary elements of setting, character, and plot to tell a frightening story about the dangers of blindly following tradition.
