Project 6c: Critiquing ArtApply the knowledge you just learned to the following assignment. Be sure to read all of the instructions before you begin your project!
Once you are finished, save your assignments in a safe place to be submitted with your second portfolio submission.
Throughout this course you have been taught the four steps of the Feldman Model of Criticism. Hopefully, by now you are confident enough to go through these steps on your own. For this assignment you will be using this model to come up with your own assessment of a work of art.
The first task for this assignment is to find a work of art to critique. Start by looking on the Internet or through art books. You may use a piece from this art course, as long as we have not already critiqued it.
Once you have selected a piece to use, you can begin writing your four paragraphs, starting with the first step, description. This was discussed in lesson 3.3. Make sure that you give an adequate description that includes the title and artist of this piece.
The second step is writing an interpretation. This step was discussed in lesson 4.3. Remember, this is your own interpretation of what you think this piece means or represents.
The third step is forming an analysis. This was discussed in lesson 5.3. Be sure to answer the following questions to help you with this step. (1) What principles are found in the art you are viewing? (2) What elements help create these principles? After you have answered these questions, write them as a paragraph. Be sure to discuss at least 5 elements and 5 principles.
The fourth step is forming your judgment of the piece. This was discussed in lesson 6.3. Compare your prejudgment to your final judgment after going through the first three criticism steps. Be sure to explain why you find this piece successful or not.
