This week you will practice the role of a change agent and researcher. This will be accomplished by finding at least 3 specific research articles to substantiate a process change. This project is similar to week 3; however, week 3 the focus was on the roll out plan and its details. This week, the focus is still on a process change but adding in the comprehensive summaries of specific research studies that supports the process change. Search the library data base for evidence based solutions for your issue. Steps 1-3 help you to pre-plan and formulate the final product to be submitted in step 4.

Step 1: Select a topic for a change project. What do you want to change? Go in an explore each of the sites for ideas on where to implement change. The links take you to the landing page for each site.
Review the following resources for potential change topic or process ideas:
Institute for Healthcare Improvement: Transforming Care at the Bedside
Institute for Healthcare Improvement: Hospital Inpatient Waste Identification Tool
For process change resources: TeamSTEPPS® Pocket Guide

Step 2: Identify the context for your change. Where will the change take place and who will it affect? Who would need to approve the change?
Describe the setting where the change will take place. For example, clinical, insurance, home health, or public and community.
Explain who is affected: patients, nurses, leadership, and other stakeholders in the organization.
Who would need to approve the change? The CEO, unit manager or someone else? Address the plan to this position.

Step 3: Review the literature to find possible evidence-based solutions and evidence to address your topic. Pick the solution with the best evidence to support the intervention for the change.
Search the Phoenix library for support for the change. What are the current best practices for your intended change? Find 3-5 research articles that can be summarized to support the overall plan. Be sure to have a well developed summary. One sentence is not a summary. The focus this week is showing how evidence-based research can be utilized to support positive change. The article summaries should be easy to find in the project. Be sure to cite the material appropriately. The 3-5 sources is in addition to any other outside materials being used in the project.
Research sources that guide evidence-based practice to improve outcomes related to your selected topic.
In addition to any other sources or articles for this assignment, find a minimum of three to five peer-reviewed articles directly related to addressing the change topic. Use these articles to support the change plan by summarizing key points and adding the summary to the presentation. Do not use direct quotes in the presentation. Summaries only.
Please be sure to have a good review/summary of each article and how the article supports the implementation of the project.
Here are two good articles on how to summarize a research article for our class. There are many ways to accomplish this task, but for this class a summarized review of the author’s findings is what is needed.
Summarizing a scholarly journal article
How to summarize a journal article
Also note when using research, we no longer write out the article’s name. Instead the format for the end of the sentence is (Author(s), date). Author(s) name (date) is used for the beginning of the sentence.
Additional outside sources can also be utilized such as your organizations website. All material must be cited, and sources placed in the reference page.

Step 4: The final product for this week, what is due: Create a power point that shows the implementation/roll out plan for your change similar to the week 3 project that is supported by the research findings found in the library database. We are building on what you have learned so far.

The audience would be the person(s) who need to approve the change. Be sure to address this person in your speakers notes on the first or second slide.
Create an implementation plan for your change similar to week 3. The plan should include
identify what is the change, rationale, who would approve the change and the area
who would be affected by the change
what resources are needed [budget, supplies]
a simple timeline
be logical in sequence
Use the research articles to substantiate and justify the change idea. For example, if an automated scheduling software could be a good improvement for your facility, use the research to support the change. The summaries for the articles will go into the speakers notes area. Be sure to cite your speakers notes.
Be creative!

Format your assignment as a 10- to 15-slide presentation with robust cited speakers notes. Please submit a pptx format and no pdf formatting as the speakers notes are not visible on the instructors end.

Include an APA-formatted reference slide(s) or in-text citations. APA 7th edition, professional background [no black/white or brightly colored backgrounds], easy to read font, good balance between words and graphics, cited speakers notes, cover and reference slide. Do not use 1st person [No “I”, “we”, “me” etc.]

Note: You may want to save copies of this assignment to refer to in NSG/498, Senior Leadership Practicum. In that course, you will be working to synthesize information. Although you cannot reuse it, this assignment may serve as a good starting point.
