Discussion Board Week One For week one: Please post a short introduction

Discussion Board Week One

For week one:  Please post a short introduction about yourself and answer the following questions.  Include such things as what program of study you are in and what you hope to get out of our Medical Terminology class.  Please respond to at least two posts by your fellow classmates so we can get acquainted with each other. (Replies are worth one point each for a max. of 2 points.). Remember, for your reply to count, it has to add meaning to the discussion and be at least 3 sentences long.  Post such as “good post” or similar will not count toward credit for a reply.

Please answer the following questions for the first Db. The answers to the following questions, with the exception of question 8, can be found in the official syllabus, posted under the Modules tab,  as well as several other locations on the Canvas site.  All information is at your fingertips.  You must open the official syllabus to answer question 8. There is also a voice over powerpoint presentation that will help you answer these questions so please review the ppt.

Briefly answer the following questions in your post: (answers can be found in the syllabus, announcements,  and assignments posted).

1.  What assignments are due each week and what are the due dates?

2.  What is the extra credit policy for this class?

3.  What do you do about late assignments?

4.  When are exams given and what are the due dates and times of the exams?  What is an SSD exam?

5.  How do you access your book?  Which book is AUTO access and which book must be purchased?

6.  What is the Audio Glossary (Listening) and what is the purpose of this?  Is it graded or is it for practice only? Where do you find the Audio Glossary?

7.  Where is the official syllabus for the class located?

8.  Go to page 3 of the official syllabus for the class. Here you will find the grading policy for the class.  Please briefly summarize the grading policy of the class.

9.  What happens if you open an exam by mistake?

10.  How many quizzes are there for this class and how many exams?  When are they scheduled and when are they due?

Also:  Post five sentences using medical terminology you are already familiar with.  This can be on any subject you like.

Each week you will receive an assignment similar to this on the Discussion Board.  These are the online class participation assignments that you receive a total of 14 points for weekly.  Weekly Db assignments are due on Fridays by midnight.  Again, please respond to at least two other posts.  You will receive 7 points for your post and 1 point for each of the 2 posts you respond to and 5 points for sentences you write (one point for each sentence).  Missing a weekly Db is like missing an on campus class, once the class is over you cannot go back and make it up.  Once a Db is past you cannot go back and make it up. The discussion has been completed at the end of each week when it closes.

When writing your sentences please do not write definitions to the words.  I am looking for sentences that show you understand how to use the words.

Also, you are all writing at the college level now.  I expect you to use correct, basic grammar, punctuation and spelling.  I will count off for basic errors. I will count off for leaving periods off the end of sentences, not starting sentences with capitol letters, gross spelling errors and sentences I cannot understand.  Please proof read your work so you don’t lose points due to these kind of errors.
